Traded in my Raptor for a Banshee
#1
Just to give you guys an update, after alot of thinking, I went ahead a decided to trade my '03 LE Raptor that had tons of mods for a '04 stock Banshee.
*First thing I noticed was sad, I was driving it from the showroom to load it on my trailer and it wouldn't pull 1st gear even at half throttle to get up the trailer gate so I just shut it off and pushed it, and said "I can't believe this".....regret was going through my mind.
*Breaking it in with 20-30 minute rides and let it cool off I was noticing a power increase and the engine was starting to reving further out after each cool down. Well after a whole day of doing this I felt it a gain in it's bottom end, still not close to the ex.Rappy but at least it will idle out of 1st gear and throttle up to the power band and what's more noticeable is the farther out the gears are reving.
*Very bad thing I almost lost it and eat it when coming across a small section of plowed field at high speed that on the Raptor wasn't even felt, so I'll have to start on the handling real soon.
*Very good thing by the end of the day I ran my first race against a piped 400ex and blow by him as soon as I hit the powerband in 4th gear which may not say much but made me feel good considering mines is bone stock and getting faster by the ride, and after spending all day having to explain to everyone I meet out riding WHY DID YOU DO IT???
The answer to that question is the thrill of power band when hits and the speed potential of this machine was worth it to me.

I felt the same way and the money issue always stopped me, but my wife is the one that said why don't you just see what kind of a deal you can get and if the payments stay the same then get it. She's heard me talk about a Banshee since the day I bought my Rappy and saw how I was undecided between the two, and she always hears my stories about how fast people can make a 2stroke and said " I know's that if you don't do it now, you end up doing it later after you loose a few races to your friends and start spending more money making the Rappy faster"

The Rappy was running excellent and I was even able to get it jetted to run 93 pump gas, but after seeing some lightning fast bikes and then trading for a day my Rappy for my freinds mildly modded banshee and seeing what it can do there was not turning back for me, and this weekend just sealed it for me.

Good move Hiarm, I know you will love the shee more and more. Just image if that is stock what it will do when you put some pipes, filter and rejett that thing.!!!! Good luck and be safe b/c the shee is more powerful then the rappy..

I sold a strong running Banshee with intentions of building a new and inproved (FASTER) Banshee. Trying to be more mature and family oriented, I decided not to spend that much money and instead bought a DS. The DS is a great machine and it is fun to ride, however I wish that I would have bought a new Banshee instead.
So the DS is on the auction block and I plan to get an 04 Banshee shortly after January 1. Then, we'll go racing again!

your never going to have good lowend on the banshee you should of knew that? thats one of its downfalls.
as far a rebuilding a banshee?? the raptor cost more to rebuild top end VS top end so how do you figure it will cost more to rebuild? on a raptor you have valves cam timing chain that dont get expensive?

My friend was rebuilding after Sunday's ride so Labor day Monday I jumped at the chance to see what's inside and how much of a big deal it would be there's nothing to a 2 stroke rebuild, a head, piston and jug,..... there's no timing chain, not cam with decompression pin to line up, or valve clearances to set, so I don't think I'll mind the rebuilds at all, and the pre-mix makes me feel like a scientist
