kodiak cv boot clamp prob
#2
I didn't think that cv boot clamps could be tightened. I looked at mine and it appears to be the same as a front wheel drive car. Usually as soon as you do anything with the cv boots you replace the clamp. It uses a special tool to do this. Hopefully some one could shed some light on the subject.

eep. I didnt give enough info. I was trying to be brief lol. My clamp was knocked off this weekend but the boot is ok. So i bought a new clamp and tried to install it. The clamps design is as follows: It is a flexible piece of metal with a seperate piece of metal looped around it on one end. the guy at Yamaha said you put the clamp around the boot, thread it through the loop, pull it tight, bend it back over the loop where two tabs are bent over it to hold it in place. Problem is even when I hold the loop with a pair of vice grips and pull the strap with another pair of vice grips I cannot get it tight enough.... sounds like I need a tool huh?
How about this: I have an automotive cv joint tool so i could try one of those clamps.
Another idea: Wonder if a big Zip Tie pulled tight would do the trick?
There isnt enough clearance for anything like a hose clamp.....I sure dont want to pay 55 an hour for yamaha to do it...

If the auto clamper doesn't do the trick use the big zip ties. They seem to hold up very very well and should do the trick. The best thing to get the zip ties tight if you choose to try this route is to get a zip tie gun (If that is what they are called) the hardware store like Lowe's or Home Depot carry them you tread the zip tie in it and it has a trigger that will pull it tight so once you wrap it around the clamp just pull the trigger on the gun until it is nice and tight.

whooohoo! The big zip tie did the trick. I had to carve on the locking end of it some to get it small enough to pass by the the lower ball joint but its there. I wish I had one of the zip tie guns that would have made it a bit easier but vice grips did the trick. Thanks everyone
