dual exhaust back pressure
#1
well living in oregon noise is of some concern so the new lte pipe is of interest, but while at ds days azsand said he had dual exhaust and couldn't get it off his machine fast enough. lost everything he said, but mainly bottom end felt the ds needs back pressure, so since the duals will flow easier would the disk ends destroy the top end or would we be able to control the noise and the performance. well considering this set up a lot and want to figure out if this is something to consider. i know weight is of concern but i've been giving that some thought since i live next to muzzys and they keep shining me on maybe i could get some of there carbon fiber silencers and adapt them to the pipe.

So they are! (Well at least they are closer to me than to you but, still probably 3 hours away judging from the area code!)
So, is your thumb getting the itch to push on the throttle too?
I think I am going into withdrawls after last weekend! That was probably one of the best trips I have made up to the mountain (meeting people, seeing old friends, hanging with my group and riding my quad - sure was happy with how it ran!)

Sandman, what exhaust has more back pressure than the stock exhaust? When any aftermarket exhaust has been put on the DS so far the bottom end comes alive. My guess is the advantage of two pipes would be more for reducing noise than gaining flow over say a big gun or very open exhaust. What I'm saying is that they should probably fairly restricted at the tip probably in the range of two stock exhausts. Where's that pioneering spirt?

In my opinion, the more flow the better. If you need more low end torque, then there are lots of things that can enhance that WITHOUT sacrificing the top end. 1) a high compression piston 2) and an Adjustable retardable CDI.

Back pressure is something that plagued me for a bit...post FSWII I was still running the MBRP, the "quiet" slip-on unit, and I was experiencing serious issues. I had bad blow by from my case vent, hard starting, and generally my quad was running like crap. I was looking for zebras the whole time and ended up having all kinds of tests ran...leak down, coil test, battery load test...lol...anyway long story short, I ended up adjusting my valves and that took care of about 60% of my problems...the other 40% was due to my slip-on and excessive back pressure. It was so bad that when I bliped the throttle with the airfilter off I could actually see the symptoms--fuel was going the wrong way...literally it was being blown backwards towards the filter! I thought I'd been doing too many wheelies because my air filter smelled like gas...LOL.
Pipe choice is serious business based on mods. With stage III mods the best I've found so far from what I've ran is the 3" modified endcap.
As far as AZSands experience with duals...they were drag pipes that stopped just past/under his foot pegs and were more like open headers and basically proved that there is such a situation as not enough back pressure!
Personally I can't wait until one of you--Jeffroe, jeffinrivercity...runs these new duals and gives us a real world measurement of how they perform!

well i'm sure us with the noise problems will try the duals soon, the removing of the airbox i've heard saves about three pounds, so that should help on the weight, plus there are a few other things to do.

As soon as they realease them i will have a set and with in a few day's will have dyno results i don't much care about noise but i do care about exhaust gas swirl and i belive with cannisters the duals will work good!!! but im more worried about weight versus!! hp gains??????
And Air My testing was done on a dyno with several pipes and the drag pipes sounded meaner and looked meaner but did not come close to preforming as good as a baffeled pipe we tried every thing from a 165-240 main jets

AZsand, good to see you around again. What exaust are you running now?
I think this dual exaust sounds intriging. could be a great pipe. As much and for as long as i have been reading this forum, it still sounds like the best performing pipe, it was my experience as well, is the RWR. I think far to many people make the pipe hitting thing (which never happend to me) keep them from owning the best pipe around. When I get another DS, it will have the Woods again but I will have some kind of different coating dont to it I think, maybe black high heat powder coat.
