Default "WARNING" fan bolts!!

the next time you see your bike check the radiator fan bolts, mine had vibrated lose and theirs a little washer/ spacer/ shim ? that worked its way forward to the radiator. it rubbed a hole in one of the cores and started to leak. I didnt know till it was to late it started squarting anti freeze.
Heads up & forwarned.
it was a total b!tch to get out too. the gas tank, the oil tank, the light assambly and one coil had to come off what a pain!!!

I found the same thing at the last race I went to. But I caught it before it did damage.

WOW,
I just looked a few days back and I noticed that my fan was only bolted on the left side.. NOTHING on the right. I will look closer to make sure its ok. I have new bolts already.. I may just lock tight them to make sure!

after going through mulitple fans i replaced those shims with little pieces of rubber(old cuttup handgrips), dampens the vibs and now my fans last about a year at a time... all hot temp riding in the dunes.. if you go this route, just be sure and spin your fan freely before you turn it on... if it does not want to spin real easy than you got too much pressure at one or two points and it will blow the motor real quick...threw those shims away with the first fan.

Mines only bolted on one side too. I kinda wonder if that has isolated some of the vibration (like the new mount is designed to do.) So, I just leave it mounted on one side hoping this keeps my fan from failing.

If you still have the machine apart to take the radiator out, you should get someone to weld up some tabs like the new DS' have. I have this done to my 2001 and now I wont have to worry about the fan since it is mounted just like the new ATVs.
