Anybody read this issue about the shootout they did with a modifiec Z-400, the YFZ and Pred? I was surprised that a 440 Z couldn't beat a YFZ. I guess people were wrong about buying the cheaper Z, modding it and smoking YFZ's. They ended up putting $8000 into the Z. They did say it was more fun at the dunes, however.

they didnt put 8 grand into it and the z beats the yfz topend with the 440 kit, its just that the yfz has REAL good acceleration. but the z440 will beat that topend, definetely.

How often will a z440 or a yfz see top end speeds (70mph)??? Trust me i know you dont get to see it all that much, ive only hit my rev limiter in 5th on a road. Dont buy a 4wheeler just because of its top end speed, unless all you do is drag race on pavement.

If they didnt spend money on stuff they didnt need and put it somewhere else, the Z definetly would have done better.

the z was faster on top speed they just said it took most of the run for it to catch it.

I just reread the article and they never said the Z-440 ever passed the YZF-450. They said, "it would then take most of the run for the Wiseco Z-440 to catch up". This was over a 500 YD sand drag course at Pismo. Also they ended up putting $2912 into the Z to get it competitive with the Yamaha. I've got to hand it to Yamaha, that is quite a quad, even thought the Z is better for the trail riding I do.

The DW Z440 didn't have a FCR carb so that is also holding that quad back.
