Both in stock condition and equal riders abilities, the LT would win in most cases. The EX frame geometry is very motocross friendly though.

With equal modifications part for part and dollar for dollar, I believe the Lt would come out evan further ahead.

 

It's way cheaper/easier to mod a 2 stroke, Way less to buy, and worry about. In a drag I think the 250 would win. On an all out track with good riders it would probably be close.

 

Stock for stock I think the EX would win unless the rider on the LT was very small. The 85 LTs were the slowest of all the year models. I think though, if you had it ported, put on a 86 carb (34mm instead of 32mm that 85s came with), pipe, pull the air box lid and shave .020 off the head then it would win then. That was the setup on my 86 except for 20” tires instead of 22” and it would out accelerate a stock Z400 up to 60mph (top end with 20” tires). I think a EX is a little slower than a Z so with the stock tire size it would probably pull away nicely from start to finish.
