Default Red Hot YFZ pipe

Have any of you YFZ owners noticed that your head pipe Turns Bright red after riding for 2~5 min. After riding around tonight A bright red glow reflecting off my front fender cought my eye. I called my local Yamaha Shop where I bought the machine and They said that this is normal. But to me red hot glowing metal is any thing but normal

You guys should try fabricating a guard, or try finding one. My dad welded a a guard together for mine, and my leg wasnt burn yet!

The pipe glow is going to happen if you are just putting around on the yfz. They bike and engine was made to run. The yz 450 dirtbike is the same way. They will start to glow at the starting line. They will run cooler if the bike is moving.

Mine is the same way... I made the mistake of doing my first test ride in a pair shorts and running shoes with no socks. I don't ride without my riding pants and boots anymore. The inside of my right boot is kinda charred too... and I've never even made contact.

Not that it matters, but when I was starting tests to see how quickly water would start coming out of the over flow tubes, I had digital thermometer on my head pipe right where it meets the head. Temp was @ 400+ f in no time flat. It's normal. I've never had the opportunity to see mine glowing, but I did see a cool pic on the net last week.
