Warrior Starting problem
#1
I am working on this 1996 warrior for a friend. Ever since he has owned it, the quad never has started right. He has replaced the battery, plugs, carb, and rings, but to no avail. When he goes to start it, it makes the "clanking noise" I have read about before. Some times it starts, most of the time it will not. Can the timing on the warrior actually be wrong? Any good way to check the cam chain stretch? This quad has not lived the easiest of lives, but still runs strong..... if you can get it started. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

To check the cam chain on the chain tensioner take the center bolt and spring out then take out the two bolts that holds the tensioner in. check the plunger to see how far it is pushed out, this will tell you how much it stretched. I don't think it would run right if the timing was off and one of the valves could hit the piston, but if the chain is stretched it could have jumped a tooth on the sprocket. I would also check the brushes in your starter, it sounds like the starter to me.
