Default What would you do????: Engine LT250R

Alright guys, I keep going back and forth on what to do here. Its an 86. Shaving head, porting, bore, carb???????????????????? And what about the 4 window reed cage, ( think thats what it is) Are there any upgrades for that?????? Anything else I should think about??? I want some serious good suggestions on what to do here. I don't want to give up too much reliability, just want a little more power. Such a hard decision!!!!!!!! So give me what you got, give me what you think, give me what you dream of!!!!

well, it's a good thing that you don't want to make it into a firebreather because an '86 engine isn't at all a good platform for building a real screamer...

i guess i'd look at reeds, they're cheap and easy. just like a good woman. don't get too cheap like boysen, go with carbontech. if they're good enough for me, they're good enough for you.

the best thing to do to any 2 stroke is to port it. But it's tough to port one of those things right with that weird intake port... find someone good or find power elsewhere!!

I guess if you're willing to dish out the money then you can get a spacer plate made for the cylinder, and fit an '87 rod in there if you're really adventurous. Then bore the hell out of it and get the head shaved and resurfaced. That'd be a real killer.

but if you're going through all that trouble then why not drop a zilla motor in there and fix it up for reliability and power, an engine swap like that will be a life changing experience. Power like you can't even imagine. Then the little 86 LT can go pick on the big boys... DS650s, YFZs, rappys, predators, cannondales...

1986 Quadracer------------Thanks for the info, how much would you guess the reeds and porting will cost? And how much porting should I do? Sorry for all the questions, but should I stay on the stock bore also? Thanks a lot for the help by the way

Is it hard to put a quadzilla into a 86 frAME? What all do you havt to do to the frame to make it fit? If you do install a quadzilla motor what year motor do you suggest,or is there only one year year that will fit?

I found a guy on ebay that did a stage one porting on mine for $80. He may or may not still be doing it. I noticed the difference. He also shaved either .010 or .020 off the head. I cant remember. Only bore the engine if it needs it. If it is on the stock piston, then it probably wont be a bad idea to get a .020 over wiseco piston. For reeds, I have boyesen and they seem fine, but I am sure some of those nice carbon fibre deals will do the trick. For a carb, I am running a Keihin pwk35 and it works(in my opinion) better than a 38mm Mikuni from a quadzilla) I would like to also try a36mm pwk.
Look on Ebay for all this stuff. You can usualy get it really cheap.

slakerbob SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH about ebay..
your making hard for me to get good deal off there anymore heheheh.
got a set of works shocks for the front for 160.00
is the KEIHN carb a direct replacement in your q-racer? or do you have to use different boots?
and how long does it take the mods to put your pics up?

The kiehin will pretty much go right on, even the throttle cable basically fits. The only issue(for the 85 and 86) is that the float bowl vent hits the engine case and cause the carb to tilt. By putting a boyeson float bowl on, it cures the problem. For your 88, it should be a direct replacement
What di you mean by. The mods and pics statement

evhwg, nice work finding the deal on the shocks. I am looking around for a set also. Can you tell the difference in them? Also, do you know what shocks from other quads will fit the quadracer?
