I agree with the first post--- Think about it, whatever we need to keep riding, somebody probably makes. The problem is not enough companies make the same products. Therefore we are the victims of such viscious price gouging that everything is priced so ridiculous. Take brake pads for example-- I can put brakes on my girlfriends car cheaper than i can my 300 ex (keep in mind the car has 4 instead of 3) Why is that?? Because the companies know that we will pay the price for their crap. Another example, a friend of mine races a pure stock car on a 3/8 mile dirt track-- why car he buy 4 shocks for the same less than i can buy 2 new Works shocks for my buggy???? I get so mad sometimes at the outrageous prices these companies charge, but i guess there isn't much we can do-- unless we just boycott every aftermaket company.......

You're correct all the motorcycle and ATV accessories are seriously overpriced.... Here are many examples:
I can buy a high performance camshaft for my Vette for less than I can my 400EX
Pistons for the same car are significantly cheaper as well, even really good ones.
I can get kick butt control arms, shocks, a transverse fiberglass leaf and associated equip for the Vette for less than what 2 TCS front shocks cost for my EX..
A complete Dual exhaust system with basic headers and really good mufflers (Flowmaster, Hooker, etc..) is about the same for the Vette as a stinking header pipe and silencer for the EX.
Carb's are cheaper for the Vette....
Heck, I can build a killer, 450hp streetable smallblock engine for the Vette for less than I can get a used 400EX engine!!
I could go on and on......

Well, ATVing isn't expensive, but buying aftermarket parts IS expensive. The only money it's costed me to go wheelin (other than buying the quad) is buying gas, that's it, and the thing runs all day on five bucks worth of gas. Your making it expensive by buying all this aftermarket equipment. I've had a 300 4x4 for 7 years, and the only thing it's costed me to ride it is gas and the occasional oil change.

I'd have to agree with Motorhead, it's the aftermarket accessories that's expensive. If you stayed away from the aftermarket accessories it's actually fairly inexpensive.
Even with the $1000 worth of aftermarket accessories I've put on my 450 it's still alot cheaper than my other hobby, snowmobiling, and I don't even put much into accessories for my snowmobile, other than a studded track it's stock.
If you're looking for a money pit of a sport get yourself a snowmobile!

ATV's are wonderful, compared to my last motor sport, Personnel watercraft.
I had a Kawasaki 1100 STX, that is a 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine. The PWC held 14 gallons of gas. It got about 7.5 mpg. On one day of riding we would go through the 14 gallons + 2 additional 5 gallons cans.
One day of riding 24 gallons at $1.50 gallon is $36. Now oil, you had to use marine oil it was $18 gallon. The gallon would last 2 possible 3 rides.
Insurance was $600 a year.
A few mods would run you, new ride plate, $200, Sponsons to help turning & handling $100-200.
ATVs are CHEAP to operate compared to PWC. Plus they are more fun

Oh you think ATV's have a bad reputation, PWC have it even worse.
