I expect to get blasted from all Non-Polaris owners that read this, but, here goes......

I just got an offer in the mail for an extended warranty for my 2000 SP500. They want $440 for 2 yrs up to $671 for 5 yrs (and all prices in between). Are these warranties worth the cost? I have 2 machines and this will be an expensive option, but so is one major breakdown. Anyone have a cheaper source for the extended warranty? Any thoughts based upon the track record of breakdowns?

Thanks,

just make sure that your dealer honors the company that sells the warrenty, i assuming it was a company other than polaris. i your dealer doesent honor it its worthless, so check with him too.

Buy your Polaris in New Zealand, and you get a 2 year factory warranty.

It was this reason that I got my 400 Scrambler. Called on the warranty a few times when new (Brakes, starter motor, Swingarm Bushes badly installed) but once these were sorted out in the first couple of months, only had what I call "user error" problems to fix!

bad

The warranty extensions are being offered by Polaris, so the dealers should continue to honor them. I still have one machine under warranty and I may extend it. You can do this up to 5 months after purchase. I do not know if I will, the extensions are pretty expensive. I have not had any serious trouble with my 98 Magnum, so I probably will not extend the warranty on my wife trail boss as she does not abuse the machine. Extended warranties are like gambling. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. The biggest factor I would consider is how hard you will be riding. If you plan on abusing the machine, extend the warranty. If you are only a casual rider, it is probably not worth it. Just my thoughts.
