I'm running a 12:1 686 with the stock rod, stock '01 trans, and clutch basket. So far so good. If it holds together till March I'll upgrade with the '02 trans and carrillo rod. I'll probably have it lightened.

Most engine builders told me even the 11:1 piston I am using is stressing the stock rod too much. I will try the 12:1 stock or slight overbore piston with a ported/polished head & maybe selected bigger valves & see how she holds up. If it makes it thru the year I will tear into the bottom & replace the '01 tranny & stock rod as well. Sounds like the Texan crowd likes that setup, aluminum piston/stock rod revs faster, so I hear....
By the way, are you talking about having the Carillo rod lightened? How about spending the extra cash for the ti rod?
