Default Who works at auth. warn winch repair place ??

wondering if it's safe to cut the end 5' off my warn 2.5 cable and regrommet it, with a 3/16 grommet bought at a local hardware store. Is there something special about the grommet that comes with the winch? Is it steel, or aluminum? The grommets bought at hardware stores look like aluminum. I kind of goofed up my cable learning how to use it and would like to fix it without buying a whole new cable right from the start.

Are you referring to the compression gizmo that pinches the loop together? If so then the OEM is aluminum too. It has to be of a softish material to be able to compress it. I make my own winch cables, I buy the cable and those aluminum gizmos from my local hardware store and borrow a compression tool and in a few minutes I have a new cable.
