Default 700 Clutch Kit and Exhaust Combo

What results have you guys seen on the 700's.. I was thinking about the BIG GUN and possibly a Hot seat clutch kit. Do you need the secondary kit or not?? Are the carb kits worth the effort or is the exhaust and clutch kit enough. I am looking for quicker acceleration and maybe a little more top end.

The best bang for the buck is a clutch kit. Exaust kits just don't yeld as good of results on the 4 strokes. A k&n air filter helps a little if you don't mind the maintence.
There's alot you can do to the clutch to get better performance, diffrent weights and spring combinations and even aftermarket primary's and secondary's - do your research, make sure you know what your riding stlye is and what your trying to gain.

Hey lovemud,
how do you like that heelclicker??? I too have an '03 sp600, it has about 400 miles on it now, and I'm thinking of getting a
clutch kit for it. I do mostly trail riding, and the occasional ride through the mud pit or atv pull. Thanks for any suggestions you
might have!

I just put a Dalton ind. clutch kit (purchased from RcR) on my 04 700, along with a K&N filter. I must say that it defiantly increased the acceleration a bunch. As far as an exhaust system do not waste you money. There is not one out there that does diddley squat as far as performance for the Polaris twins. All they do is increase the DB level. It may give you the impression that you have more power because of the sound but that is it. Do a search on 700 exhaust there is a guy who modded his stocker, looks like a nice job. Polaris has this motor fairly detuned from the factory, in fact for those of you who don't know, there is a limit on how fast utilities can go from the factory this is for all manufactures. A utility shall not exceed 65mph from the factory. We can see how Kawi does this with there CDI and Polaris does this two ways. 1 the detuned motor, which still produces about 52-53hp and 2 on their clutch. When you put your clutch kit on you will notice a white nylon nut on the primary clutch. This is to limit how far the belt rides up (the further it goes up reflects the final drive ratio, thus faster top speed). Take it off and throw it away. The primary does not hit the cover and top speed will increase a few mph. I can't tell you exactly because the stock speedo only reads to 70mph and it is pinned. When stock the needled would hover around this point. So I know it did increase a bit. Does the machine actually do 70+mph, I would say no. I need to find someone with a GPS to verify top speed. Hope this helps.

Actually, It took a while to find the coorect setup for the 600 but now that I've got it dialed in I really enjoy the clutch setup. It pinches the belt better at low rpms and I rarely need to shift into low even when goinf thru mudhole's of hilly terain. It engages better (just above idle). but DON'T throw away the plastic nut on the spider, you may need it, especially on the 600. With heavier weights the clutch will upshift quicker and this can take away from your midrange, if this happens you will gain top end but you'll need 10,000 feet of runway to get there.

Lovemud,

I have seen a significant increase in acceleration throughout the power band. This is with the new weights and primary spring and the nut removed. I have not noticed any midrange loss, a gain if anything. The 600 is clutched differently from the 700. Actually it is better from the factory than the 600, and usually only requires that you change the primary to increase acceleration. The nut is useless, except to limit top speed. For example, many on this forum responded that there new 600's only will hit a top speed of 45-50. That's because this nut came loose and limited the primary clutch deflection. Solution was to tighten it up, why bother take it off. Remember only EBS machines (utilities) have this set up. Look at a Scrambler or Trailblazer no nut there thus no speed limitations-on the clutch anyway

Your right about the 700's, they seems to do ok with out the plastic nut. The 600's on the other hand tend to wallow around 50 mph without it. I've done a ton of experimenting with weights and spring combinations, and have found I need the limiter or it upshifts too quick (I run 52G heelclicker weights) and I lose the midrange. I've also compared notes with some 700 owners who have also noticed that with the plastic nut their midrange is better, it helps keep the engine rpm's up in the power band. It really depends on what weight and spring combinations you run, the bottom line is if it upshift too quick your lose midrange performance. I've been actually more interested in midrange and low end pulling power, I rarely get over 50 on the trails anyway. With the plastic nut I get in the low 60's, but I get their quick - that's what my goal was.
