Big tire/wheel good for atv???
#1
Hi all, I am new and like this site alot! I own a '02 Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4, and want to do a few things to it. First off, I want to upgrade the wheels and tires and get a lift kit. I know from talking to people on trucks when you get very large tires, it may affect the drivetrain on the truck, and when I ask salesman at ATV shops around here the same thing about my ATV, they all just tell me that I have nothing to worry about, and it will not hurt my ATV at all. I have a feeling, they just wanna make a sale and could care less. I am a car audio salesman myself, and not that I would ever sway someone into a decision knowing it is a bad one, but I know how salesmen think! Anyway, would it be bad to do the Highlifter 28" tires and wheels, and a lift kit? Will it give me any problems or does anyone know of any that have occured? I just wanna get some insight on this before I go and drop down some cash...Next I wanna do an exhaust(who makes one?), and a winch, and oh yeah new front and rear plastic, mine is cracked!! Thanks alot for any help, and again, very nice site!

NO dude I wouldnt recommend putting 28" mud tires on a 400cc Utility!!! You will lose some major horsepower, and turning them things over in mud is going to be a lil problem, in Low it might do alright. I have 26" Super Swamper Vamps and mind do great and havent had any problems with my eiger yet. Cant feel much power loss at all.

I would not put anything over 26's on a smaller machince. They do take a LOT of HP to turn when in mud. I am sure they do add wear to the drivetrain but I really would not lose sleep over it. Just remember the higher you go you lose stability (U can add width to help off set this easily).

26" Mudlites would be an excellent choice for a 400cc quad. Don't want to go too big and rob yourself of power. Better to have a good quality tire then to have some large tire that you can't turn in the mud.

I just came from my dealer and broght home a set of the highlifter radial outlaws.. I can tell you from my quad (600 sportsman) that big tires do sap quite a bit of power plus when you go down a hill you must be alot more careful if it will slide sideways and tip..(My sportsman weighs over 900# and it can hurt you!!) Rember also that fender clearance may be a problem.. I called highlifter and talked to there tech dept before I started my project.. They can tell you what will fit and what will tear your fenders off if you try and turn.. I can tell you that I have 3 of there products and they are all great and the tech has been top notch.. There just so good to talk to.. Just a thought I got there alum wheel spacers and with my 28" tires it made it ALOT more stable!! Just do a little checking before you start so everything you get works together and then enjoy!! I know I may sound like a highlifter salesman but it is simply...Sell me a good product at a reasonable price treat me good and I will come back---And chances are I will bring my friends!!!

Mudlites are nice tires. i used to run 27's but for the ride the Dirt Devils are better. in mud i don't know. it's basicly same thread pattern besides the DD being a tire that is alot more square than the ML. Will just have to try em both
