Default arctic cat 250 4x4 vs. polaris 500 h.o. vs honda 400

spent a great afternoon in the rocky mountains .lots of mud bogs, lots of steep hill climbs and awesome scenery.

my atving buddies were driving a polaris 500 h.o.(2002) and a 2001 honda foreman 400.
needless to say,i was outclassed in the speed and horsepower department but when it came to rock climbing and straight out slow mud bogging, the arctic cat more then held its own,
the polaris at one point had to be pulled out bt both the honda and arctic cat.
this commentary is not meant to discredit other models of atvs or start one of those endless discussions of who has the ultimate atv.
it is more to state that with the proper ranges of gearing that even the small atvs can hold their own in these days of (if you don"t have
at least a 400 c.c. or larger atv,you are not in the loop)

2001 arctic cat 250 4x4
selectable 2/4wd
otherwise stock until the K&N dyno jet arrives

Not in the loop?
I don't agree with that. Before I jumped up to a 454 4x4 Cat in '96, I rode 2 Suzuki 250 quadrunners 4x4's for 9 years & yes as compared to the 4wheelers I now have, those 2 Suzy 250's were down on power. With high/low/superlow range with frt.dif-loc, those little quadrunners went anywhere & because of the superlow w/dif-loc, sometimes other brand & bigger cc 4wheelers had to turn around, because they couldn't crawl over the things that little Suzy 250 was capable of doing. Speed & horsepower doesn't mean everything to some & like you said, the Gearing does play a big part in any 4wheeler, Big cc or the smaller cc.

Our little 250 2X will go places that our 454 2X has problems with! The IRS is a big advantage. Plus add Lo range and they are a VERY capable ATV. Glad you had a GREAT ridding experience because that is what it is all about!!
