Default Swing Arm Bolts

Ok guys, see if you can help or if you have the same problems. I have a 96 Sport and have problems with the swing arm bolts staying tight, does anyone else have this problem??? What can i do to fix this, or why do you figure its doing it in the first place?? Any suggestions would help. Chains are very expensive after the 4th or 5th one. thanks a lot.

My first guess would be the bolt holes in the frame are egged out and the bolts are grooved. I have cut the washer out that they used at the factory and welded in a new ones before, sometimes both sides are bad enough to do both. Its a good idea to check the bushings in the swingarm while you are there.
That was one of the flaws in that rear suspension that I have seen and it does take a lot of miles to happen.

Hey thanks charlie. Yeah my bike does have a lot of miles, but these bolts keep loosening up, not because of wear. i have welded in washers and then i just welded the bolts in. not sure if that is ok but i did it.

I did the same on my old 95 Sport. Welded the bolts enough to stay put with new locknuts. Didnt have a problem after that.Bubba

It happened to both my 400's. I got some industrial locktite and tightened it to a 150ft\lbs of torque. They haven't came loose again. Oh yeah, don't forget to clean the ends real good before you locktite and tighten.
