Default Auxiliary Brake Reservoir

I lost all presure to my brakes yesterday and found brake fluid coming out around the Auxiliary Brake Reservoir. I opened it and took out the gasket on the top. It appeared to be ok and I put it back in. When I used the brake again, the first pump produced an air noise and then brake fluid came out again with each use of the brake. My question is: Can the gasket go bad even if it looks ok or have I somehow cracked the reservoir or rubber line feeding to the reservoir? Has anyone had this problem and how much did it cost to replace?
