1987 Warrior, what is this switch on the exhaust valve cover?
#1
Hey guys. I'm new to the forum. I have just finished restoring a '95 Warrior and found a good deal on another one to fix up; this time an '87 Warrior. I was comparing the differences, when I noticed on the '87 there is a pull switch, similar to that of a choke, mounted on the left side of the motor. I followed the cable and it goes to a switch on the exhaust valve cover. I popped the valve cover off and it appears that the switch, when pulled, pushes on the end of the rocker arm limiting travel of the rocker arm. My question is what is this thing and what is its purpose? My '95 doesn't have it. I was inclined to remove it, but wanted to know it is first.

1987 warrior came with pull start aswell as electric. The cable and stuff you are talking about is a decompression mechanism, it holds the exhuast valve open slightly to make it easier to pull.

The previous message was right. You can remove it, but with a new top end or any kind of compression improving pistion, it will be harder to pull start, unless you removed that already. If you do remove it, you can use a valve cover off of a later model warrior and it will look stock.
