Do I need a new rod?
#1
I'm going to do some mild mod to the engine: 11:1 piston, new springs and porting. Do I need to replace the rod or should I be ok. I just looking for a little more power and reliability. I do not drag or race.

Sounds like your putting some healthy mods in there, I would say that you are right on the edge of getting a new rod. It's your call, you rod will more than likely hold up, mine has. I suggest that if you have the extra money and a little bit more extra time do it, just to get it done. Maybe add a longer rod for extra cc's no point in spending money on the same size rod if your replacing it You do know you will have to have the case split, and take it somewhere to get the counter balance pulled to get a new rod on right?

for the 11:1 you do not have to get a new rod........supposedly.........I never had any prollems with mine..........and there are people out there running 686 12:1 with the stock rod.........I guess people are luckier than I am..........
