I'd like to have a cool project quad. Thinking of doing it next year after I pay for the Raptor I just bought. Is it possible to buy just the chassis of the YFZ450 without the motor?

I want to get a YFZ chassis and a YZ250 motor. I'd send the motor out to Rick Peterson Motorsports to be modded inot a 300cc stroker, then "throw" it in the YFZ chassis. I haven't put too much thought into it yet, but I think the only problems I come across is getting the YFZ chassis and a special pipe made. FMF or Pro Circuit would probably make a custom one but it would be expensive. Anything is possible with the right amount of $$, but I'd be staying in the $10,000 range.

What do you think? Pipe dream, or is it possible? It would be a pretty sick machine.

 

I did some checking for fun and found the frame is 566$ but the sub frame is 434$ (you could probably make your own).

Is it possible? Anything this day and age is possible. Just a matter of finding all the resorces. Good luck, and IM sure it would be a lot of fun.

 

Wow. Cheaper then I thought. I could probably do it for around $10,000. Hopefully I can do it. It would be fun.

 

if you know how to weld then you can buil your own, i guy i know took a quad frame and somehow put a 4 cylinder streetbike engine in it and welded his own frame, he built it to do ice races.

 

Put a street bike in it! Muhahaha lol, R1!!!! Maybe even do a Snowmobile engine, you would be untouchable! Imagine pulling up-to another YFZ and just letting him eat you dust. But becareful with the Balancing issue when putting in any motor not made for chassis!

Nah, I couldn't make a frame from scratch, but I could probably do the motor mounts. I don't plan on doing the welds myself though. I'm gonna have a friend who has lot of experience do it. But I will do the rest of course.

I'll probably end up just buying a YFZ450, selling the 450 motor and buying the YZ250 motor. Thats probably the easiest way.

 

Why not pick a meaner motor? I dont think the YZ250 motor has that much more potential than the motor thats already in it. What about that monster ATK dirtbike motor [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] now that would be MEAN and still lightweight etc.....

 

sounds like one badassss quad. But does the Yz250 engine really make that much more power? I mean with the amout of money your going to put into the quad, u could put the same amout of money into the 450 engine and probably come out with the same results.

Yeah, the YZ250 motor bored to 285cc and stroked making it 300cc is crazy. I had the 285cc kit without stroking it in my YZ250. It was amazing. Yeah, I could probably put that amount of money into the 450 and make the same amount if not more HP, but its just not a 2 stroke. I don't care how high performance 4 strokes become, they'll never measure up to a 2 stroke in my opinion. Plus, it would be unique. I still have a long time to think about it. At least a year before I start looking into buying anything. But its good to plan ahead.
