I am very serios about wanting to buy a 400EX in the next few months (they are not available here until october) and I would like some 400 owners with experiance to tell me the good points and the bad points of this quad. Please give me some honest answers it will be very influential in the decision to buy it or not. I have to get my my money in soon or I have to wait even longer.

Thanks for any information.

Buy one man, I bought mine in feb 2000 and love it. forget about all those overweighted overrated speed machines, unless all you plan on doing is going in a straight line. For jumping, wheelies, and Mx tracks the 400 king, It feels so light and agile and will easily get sideways around corners. Jumping the 400 is just a pleasure, it lunches easily off the smallest of jumps, and big jumps will send it to heart stopping hieghts. Its in flight handling is superb, and suspension will absorb most landings. The clutch could be better and power a little more. but for most trails the power is pefect, I haven't got the guts up yet to hit any big jumps beyond 4th because it goes so far or high, but as I get more use to it(I bought a scrambler500 in feb 99 and have just now got use to shifting again) as time goes on I may want more power later one but for now I am impressed. BUY ONE

Good points, there is nothing better except a 250r if you like 2 strokes. The bad point, start saving because everyone and their brother make something for a 400ex and you will want to buy it all. I have a 2000 400ex and I have never broken anything on it and I already have $8000 into it. I figure that when I get to $11,000, it will be where I want it.

My advice is BUY IT, it is an awesome machine for all of the above mentioned reasons. Like was said it can't be beat in the woods or on trails and is plenty fast enough in a straightaway to hurt you bad. I also agree with saving money for add ons, there seems to be no end to this stuff for the machine. I myself seem not to be able to drive by an ATV shop without stopping in and buying something else for it. I'm sure that goes for anybody that has the availability of add-ons for the machine they ride as I do. I also have not had a single proplem or anything break and i ride and jump hard. If I had to pick something to change it would be a little more top end, but here in PA. I very rarely have a chance to get into fifth gear and top it out. Where I ride it's tight twisty turns, lots of rocks, and some straights thrown in for good measure, with some pretty good hill climbs. A bigger motor just will not make you any faster in this neck of the woods.I am extremely happy and recommend it to anybody.

I've had mine since May of last year and its a great ride. Everything is just perfect except for reverse!!! But thats really no big deal just think ahead!! One of the first things I would do though ( when you get the 400) is get a pipe for it! Pending on which pipe you get its like a totally different machine. If you want alot of fun with a little bit of speed (stock) go with the 400ex.

I dont have one but i think they are great i thought it would have more power thn it did (I read to many mag's) but it is still great.
and hakmazter by the time you get 11,000 in your bike then you will have to get better parts or you will want to bore it out.
