Default 98 scrambler 400-broken piston :-(

It was supposed to be a quick last ride on my scrammy....its for sale (was). I guess you should shut it down when you here that "ticking noise" coming from the engine and not rev the pi** out of it to see if it goes away. Stupid, I know, but ive never had a problem like that before. Anyway is there anyone local or near me (WNY) that has replaced a piston that would be willing to give me a few minutes on the phone ....I rrrrrealy hate typing! You can call me collect, I can call you, I dont care either way. I have a good manual and understand the principles involved( thank god for pictures). but just had a couple of questions. 5 minutes tops ...I promise. Ive made lots of changes and or mods but this one has me leary of making any mistakes. You can reply to this thread or E mail me at roncobob@hotmail.com. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Bob

I know you hate typing but I can give you some answers. If it has a stock bore then you will have to bore it .040" over to get back to strong metal. Also, you may want to go with a wiseco piston kit as it is far superior than most others out there.Do you have any questions?

Ok here goes..CED oh yeh stock piston, Grim, I am planning to go with a wiseco piston, wasnt sure how much I had to go over (20 or 40) I guess it depends on the damage. couple of quest. I had were 1. I still use the oil inj. , will I need to premix the gas for breakin? . 2. can I use stock pipe and jetting? I have an aftermarket pipe/jetting, air box mods, but everyone who looked at the quad asked if I could put the original pipe on, so I had to change everything back ( I cant stand it stock, go figure) so I want to set it up as stock as possible. 3. is break in similar to a new quad or is there anything special I need to do. Thanks for the replys. Bob

NY, call Rick. Since he offered, that would be the best advice anyone can give.

Call Rick,I've talked to him before and he really has alot on the ball! From what I've been told you do need to premix for the first tank only at 32:1. As for the stock pipe and jetting, why not? The only time you should have to change jetting is if you alter your airbox or the exhaust.
