Default Life of a 2-stroke, long or short?

Um, still havin trouble decidin what trike i want. That deal with the 350x fell through so i'm wanting to know if a 250r is worth gettin. I've heard that 2-strokes need to be rebuilt after 60hrs of use. But someone else told me that a 2-stroke will last a long time if you change the oil and keep it clean. I'm really wantin to know what kind of trike i want so i can start lookin! Assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

u change the oil everytime you change the gas lets put it this way, my buddies 85 R is still on stock bore and im not surprised. it will get a fresh top end this season but seeing this on water cooled R's is like seeing a black civic driving down the road, theyre everywhere.

about the motor oil you use for the transmission, its helps if you HAVE IT. ive heard of some guys not checking it and it slowly leaked out, resulting in frying trannies.

A properly cared for 2 stroke will last a very long time. Maintanance isnt really that intensive for a 2 stroke anyway. Just remember to check everything that moves on a consistant basis. Of course, you shoud do this with any type of motorized vehicle. Dont worry about that 60 hours number. A good 2 stroke can last for many years between rebuilds.

I have seen several old ATC250Rs running on stock bore still yet. But get a Tecate 3 instead

if your goin to be hard and revving like in sand and stuff 2-stroke no doubt cause if ya rev 4-strokes alot tranny's like to start wearing out fast and i have a 81' honda 250r atc and i havent yet replaced anything but the tranny oil once and i have put atleast 120 hours on it since i bought it couple years ago i personally like the 2-strokes for fast riding. trails i got my 4-stroke with the 44 tooth sprocket in back for the slow torque so it all depends on what you are going to be riding on.but overall long life on 2-strokes just little maintenance.

Ok, so you guys think the 250r is good? I've been debating a lot lately on what i should get, 200x 250r or 350x. I've narrowed it down to the 200x or 250r cuz the 350x is so hard to find that i'm gonna be spending months finding a decent one. I can pretty easily find a 200x or 250r in great shape, and my dad is gonna get me a different bike this winter and i can get any of these bikes. The reason i'm not wantin a 2 stroke is that i'm worried i'm gonna have to rebuild them often and i don't really know how to, but what are service manuals for? I don't care about mixing gas. But i want something thats gonna haul as$ everywhere i go and then some. Which one is the better muddin bike? Which one can get me easily out of an encounter with a forest ranger . (because i ride in the shawnee national forest and i don't want to get caught by one). And i want something that will beat the crap out of my brother-in-laws 350 warrior. But he keeps telling me that all of them are worn out because they are close to 20 years old, and that they're junk. He's also told me that 2 strokes are more work than they are riding. Thats why i'm wantin some different feedback from different people on this forum. Feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

i would say if you want to hall a$$ and kick some two lol get you a 250r 2-stroke no doubt with a good silencer they are not to bad on noise and you will outrun almost anyone..and with the money you save you can get alot of goodies to beef it up i got mine for 300 dollars new tires and in great shape from a older fellow. and he said his son has crashed, rolled, all kinds of stuff to it and has not once been rebuilt and its a 81' at that i am amazed and if you do need to rebuild once you do it and it is very simple to repair and rebuild 2-strokes not much to em, with good manual you will be able to fix em next time 5 times as fast, they are a great bike and for you my friend since you wanna go fast and faster yet i think you need that 250r!...tons of luck to you and good luck
