Belt Drive
#2
I picked up a used kodiak 400 that is belt driven last spring. I've ridden it hard this summer, no problems. I'm planning on moving snow with it this winter. I don't see the belt as a problem at all. I'll let you know more in December.

I wouldn't get a belt drive atv. They might work fine, but I'd rather have a gearbox driving the machine than a belt. Plus, you have more control over the powerband on a manual atv.

Or you could get a honda rubicon with the hydrostatic transmission.A true automatic but with the option of manually selecting gear ratios if you choose. If you are concerned about reliability most farm and industrial equipment use hydrostatic drives so it is a well proven system. I have never seen a belt break on a belt drive but I have seen two flat spot in deep mud which results in a lot of vibration and an unpleasant ride home.I have also seen two belts slip while towing moose out of a swamp.
