Default YFZ450 Killswitch Installation

Hi guys, I have a YFZ450 and want to know the correct method to wire my pro design killswitch. I need detailed instructions as to what to connect, not just cut the white wire and attach etc. Thanks

I'd suggest getting the shop manual that includes a complete wiring diagram.

Ok, first start at your flywheel cover (left side of machine right next to where you check oil in the engine, not the tank). There should be wires coming out of your flywheel cover for the stator. Follow them up under the radiator, and up near the main wiring harness (still on left side of machine). As you follow this wire, you will see it turns into a black connector and you can now see 2 colored wires. You want to splice into the all white wire. (some wires are white with a colored stripe, don't use those) If you want to double check that you are on the right wire, disconnect this black connector and you should have a neutral light on with the key on, but the machine won't start. Splice into the all white wire with the positive wire of the tether, it will be the longer of the 2 wires. Use shrink wrap over the connection to water-proof it. Then take the shorter wire from the tether and crimp a spade end on it and ground it somewhere to the frame. I used the bolts that hold on the voltage regulator (small silver box with air fins near front shock mounts. Then all should be set. PM me if you're still confused!

The connector you want is called a scotch lock. I can't remember what size you need. But basically you can take this connector and slip it over the white wire, insert your + tether wire, and there is a metal piece you pinch down with your pliers and it automatically taps into both wires. Then you just bend a plastic peice that clips over top of the metal you just pinched and it's done. Put some shrink wrap or black tape on to water proof it a little.
