03 Kodiak 400 2wd drive noisy
#1
I just bought a 03 Kodiak 400 2wd. I love the automatic and it has lots of power. I have 70 miles on it and just got it back from the dealer after getting the 30 day check-up. I have always owned semi-automatic ATVs so this is my first fully automatic. They one thing I have noticed is the drive system is a little noisy, especially after 10mph. It makes a knocking noise that is louder than the engine. It doesn't sound like a destructive knock but when you start going fast or putting a load on the motor it makes the noise. It does not do this when you rev up the engine in nuetral so I am fairly certain it is coming from the belt drive. I told the dealer about it when I took it in for service and they didn't say anything about it when I picked it up. Is this just the normal drive sound of these belt driven ATVs? You don't hear it going slow, just when speed is in excess of 10 MPH. Just curious.

It is not a tap, it is a deeper knock. I rode another 03 this weekend and it kinda made the same noise but not as loud. It had 200 miles on it and mine has 70. Maybe it will go away with time. It only does it after about 10 mph and when it is under a load like climbing a hill. I can lock the brakes and rev the engine and it does not do it so it is something in the belt or clutch. I am use to riding a Honda Fourtrax with semi-auto transmission and I have never head a noise like this.
