warrior mods
#1
I have a 96 warrior that smokes like a someb!%@# out the tailpipe!! It's GREAT for killing mosquitoes (which I personally am not complaining about), but anyone that is slower than me on the trails gets a lungfull of carbon monoxide and it is rather embarassing. I figured that since I already have the wheeler I oughta fix it rather than buy a new one, but I really don't see the use in just fixin' it with STOCK parts (booor-ing... More power!! ARR, ARR, ARR!!). It has been suggested to me to get a bigger piston, but I'm not exactly sure what size to get, where to look on the web to order a kit and sleeve (since I am extremely new at wheelin') or what else I should do besides the piston. Can anyone please help me and possibly direct me to a good sight to order? PLEASE let me know, and thank you very-very much for your time and consideration!!

well it depends on how much you want to spend . id look in the dirt wheels mag and find a good place to buy a big bore kit. alba makes one but you know how much that will be. the yamaha dealer can get you a kit also but id still check every option first. whatever you do dont just rebuild it back to factory specs. you have already been down that road. And no better time to rebuild than winter.

I recently had the same debate. '95 Warrior, I was going to rebuild the top end anyways, so I figured I'd add some hp's while I was at it. I was soon lured by the appeal of the big bore kits, but then reality hit me. The Warrior is a great reliable trail quad, but it is also dated. When it comes to overall performance capability, you're polishing a turd. You can spend nearly $2k on the motor and get 30-35 hp, but it is still heavy, front weight biased, and lousy suspension. So, I had to decide if I was going to sell and upgrade or love my Warrior for what it is (a good quad, but not competive w/ most newer quads such as the 400EX). I decided to keep it. But since I was going to rebuild the top end, I decided to go ahead and put a few extra bucks in mild mods and get a few more hps. I went with a Wiseco high compression piston, .450 cam, valve springs, and a 15 tooth front sprocket. I had to replace the piston anyways (BTW, just go w/ one size up...a larger than necessary piston won't give more hp, just reduce how many re-bores you have left), so really only the cam/valve springs were additional cost ($200). The end result is quite nice (however, I'm still working out jetting bugs so I can't fully attest to the power). A lot more top end, a lot less bottom end (between the gearing and high lift cam), but still plenty to be a decent trail bike. I just couldn't justify any more $$ to stroke it or go with larger displacement.

Thank you guys very, very much!! You guys are GREAT!! I greatly appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I spoke with the Yamaha god (the gentleman that miraculously fixed it the FIRST time I had problems with it) and he recommends that I get the top end off of a big bear 400 so that I don't bore out the 350 head and weaken the walls (I'm not exactly sure of the correct terminology - extremely new at all of this as you can obviously tell...). So I will look into all of the above mentioned suggestions, weigh everything all out and make decisions. Hopefully I can let you all know in the near future what I've done and how it goes. Thank you again!!
