Default Trail Boss gearing

Anyone here drop the gearing on the Trail Boss. I'm curious if a one tooth drop in the front would give it a touch more zip. Also, what is stock? Any ideas on where to get one?

Thanks

Stock is 11 teeth on the front and 40 on the rear. I don't think you can go smaller than 11 but you can easily go to a 42 in the rear. I am thinking about doing that myself.

I have 2 trailboss' and am doing a little experimenting with the gearing and clutch. I'm waiting on the clutch springs to get here and the sprockets, but I'm actually doing the opposite of what you are thinking of. I'm going to a 39 tooth rear sprocket and changing the spring in the primary to a Dalton black & white which is supposed to give me more zip on the bottom end and with the smaller sprocket in the back increase the top end some. I'll let you know how it works once the parts are in and operating. I have the full stock speedo kit on my 2004 ($278.00 from Polaris) so I have a good idea of where its at stock. 0 to 30 is right there but to hit the top of 48 it takes a mile. Hopefully this new set up will change that.

Thanks for the replies. I found a ten tooth sprocket at Sprocket Specialists. Going to Tennessee on Friday to ride for the week. I'll try to remember to let you know how it went.

A ten tooth would be great. Do you have a web address for them? How much did it costs? I am wanting to gear down and go to bigger tires in back for more ground clearance in the mud.

Are you going to Coal Creek/ Windrock? We are going Wed. or Thursday next week and will be there for 4 days.

The address is http://sprocketspecialists.com/html/main.shtml. I haven't gotten the bill yet, so I don't know the total.

We are heading down to Windrock Friday afternoon. We're gonna stay until the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We'll be in the motorhome in the first parking lot on your right. It's the longer term parking area. I have ridden more mile there than anyone in the last year. If you're new to the area, look us up. We may get a chance to show you around. I've logged over 5000 miles there since last April. It really is an awesome place.

Scott we will be in a motor home as well. I ride a red Outlander, my brother a blue Wolverine, and our friend a green Prairie 650. Our trailer setup is a little different with ramps angling down in so we can squeeze enough atvs on. We have only been to Windrock once and would be glad to hook up with you. What part of Michigan are you in? My wife is from Kalamazoo with family in Grand Rapids. She has graciously agreed to go up without me this year! I hope we can get up there Wed. evening to get 3 full days of riding in. Look forward to meeting you, Brent.

Hello Brent,

I live just north of Detroit. It's 528 miles from house to parking lot. I haven't ridden in 2 1/2 months. The longest we have gone between trips has been 6 weeks. The withdrawals have been terrible. I'll be there with my son, who's 15, and a very good rider. My Mom and Dad will be with us too. They love are both in their 60's and love Windrock. So, as you can see, it's a family affair with us. Which is a good thing, I think. If you hook up with us, we have a few trails that we take people on, that most normally don't ride.

Have you been to the Flats or Panther Bluff? If not, that's a good all day ride. A couple of the finest views over there.

We'll see ya there.

Scott

Haven't been to either place. We rode to Caryville one day, which was nice because we got lunch and gas. The second day we explored a little, saw the windmills. We ended up on trail 21, bad choice! I was on a 2wd, we finally had to turn around.

Looking forward to hooking up with you. BK
