425 Expedition & 400 Explorer ?s
#1
A dealer has both of these machines for around $3700. The Expedition is a 2000 model and the Explorer is a 2001. Both are in good shape. Can anyone tell me their experiences with either of these machines. I know the basic stuff like engines and trannys but don't know there trail riding capabilities or performance and handling. I do mainly trail riding in areas that can at times get steep and rocky. I also like to do some mudding. Thanks for any input!

Personaly I would go with the 400 Explorer 1. it is automatic 2.it is a 2stroke Now the 425 Expidition isnt bad either it has a great power plant but it is a shifter.I like the autos for trails and hills.

Go with the 425 Xpedition. I've owned the 2000 and still own the 2001 425 Xpedition. Did a lot of research before purchasing but went with the Xpedition due to the fact that it is a 4 stroke and it shifts so smoothly you won't regret NOT buying an automatic. The 400 Xplorer is a great quad as well, very quick, but being a 2 stroke turned me off a little. And when it comes to "steep" downhills, you will really like the backshifting of the 5 speed Xpedition, very little brake action required. EBS has never been standard on an Xplorer.
Now, if you can get the Xplorer with EBS, deciding on which quad to buy would be a lot tougher.
Good luck!
