anyone replace wheel bearings on a 2000 Kodiak?

My front wheel bearings are shot on one side of my quad. Anyways, I have not taken it apart yet because I do not have the parts. I found an aftermarket brand called pivot works that comes with all the bearing and seals for $50. Have never changed these before and am wondering if anyone has done it. I have many tools and am mechanicaly inclined but I do not know if i need any special tools. I do not have a manual and the dealer says it will be some time before I can get one. Do I need a press to remove and instll the bearings? Must I take off the steering knucle to do the job? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It's not that hard to do, I use the pivot works bearings and they are better and cheaper than OEM. You do need to remove the knuckle and the brake caliber, then just drive the old bearings out, I use a brass punch and just work your way around the bearing. Remove the seals first, the front bearing must be driven out from the back and vise versa. Make sure you check your ball joints, the lower one has a tendancy to wear out the hole in the steering knuckle if not properly tourqued.
Install the new bearings and seals using a brass rod or block of wood, make sure you don't drive against the inner race of the bearing.
Use plenty of grease and clean-up the inside if the knuckle where the bearings ride.
Don't forget to install the spacer that goes in before the rear bearing is installed.
It only takes me about an hour to change out each wheel.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

MD Kodiak pretty well covered it all. The only thing I can add is the pivot works bearings don't have a lot of grease inside the seals. I always pop the seals out of the bearings and pack them full of marine grease and put the seals back. I also try to get as much grase as I can between the outer seals and the bearings. The way I figure is if there is grease in there water and mud can't get in there. MD kodiak is also right about the steering knuckle and ball joint connection, I have seen those wear out and cause problems. Those knuckles aren't cheap. I broke one once and the dealer wanted about $175. I got lucky and found one off a burnt Wolvy for $10 so I bought both of them.
By the way welcome to the forums and let us know how it goes.
