I got a 400ex and i want to polish my swingarm. how would ido this. what will i need and wil it look good?

 

Remove swinger, blast the paint off, I am not sure if soda, or glass would work, I have used sand. Start sanding, keep sanding, use a higher paper, sand some more, get a higher paper, sand some more, get a First stage polish, polish alot, polish more, and finally polish some more. It will be a real time consuming job. I have seen one that came out like a mirror, he spent about 25 hours on it.

 

nice.. will it rust tho or anything? Wet sand will work? should i sand blast it in the behgining coat? what about swing arms. Do u put a clear coat on it or anything. How about a dye grinder. aka Cookie grinder( gasket cleaner thing) Will that work tell me what u think. what kind of sand paper plz.. And how long will it look good for? Thanks man alot

 

you won't have to worry about it rusting, its aluminum and aluminum won't rust. however i wouldn't reccomend polishing the swingarm. it will take FOREVER! and on top of that you gotta polish stuff all the time to keep it looking good. i don't think your gonna wanna pull your swingarm off every month or so to polish it again.

 

I didn't want to burst your bubble, but Juggalo is exactly right. You might want to look into a chrome one. Or find a shop that can chrome that one for you.
But if you have the stones to go for it:
Sand blast it first, and you jsut start sanding with whatever smooths it out over the sandblasting, then move up in numbers until you get pretty smooth, then same thing with polish. You could clear cover it, but what with? It will dull pretty quick, depends on the condidions you ride in.
Get a chrome one, or have it powder coated another color.

 

If you do polish it and want it to stay polished for a long time without having to polish it all the time, try this product called Zoop Seal.Zoop Seal. It prevents oxidation on aluminum ans stainless steel for up to 3 years. After you have it polished to how you want it, seal it with Zoop Seal and all you have to do is hose it down like chrome. It isn't cheap though.

The first thing you are going to want to do is got to someplace like the Eastwood Company and get a complete buffing kit (compounds, buffing wheels, so on.) You are going to also need a bench grinder so that you can attach the buffing wheels to. Also, if there are any hard to reach spaces, a dremmil makes that easier. They have buffing kits for dremmils too.
