For all, a 4 stroke becasue the 2 strokes cant to tight woods, or long fuel range..

I live in Canada and 2 stroe isn't the best to start up in the cold with so I prefer 4 stroke. But if I was racing in the summers I would get a 2 stroke.

for all around riding I would go with a 4 cause you dont have to work the clutch constantly but if I was racing I would take a 2 stroke.

4 stroke if I was doing riding in tighter areas. A 4 stroke if I was riding in an open area. So, yah, 4 stroke. Not had too much experience on the 250R's.

ATV_MAN,

The cold start arguement doesn't wash. Don't you guys do any snowmobiling down there? Come on up here where it gets cold! Set up correctly, 2 strokes are excellent cold starters. There isn't a 4-stroke snowmobile on the planet!

In the cold the 4-stroke is slugging thick oil while cranking, like a car. Lots of resistance to cranking. Its a lot easier to pull the rope on a 2 stroke snowmobile than pull the rope on a 4 stroke ATV at -30 degrees.

I am a 4-stroke fan all the way, just didn't agree with the starting arguement.

There is a four stroke snowmobile. It is made by Redline, and is to be release for 2001 or 2002.

As for the question at hand. For "all around" riding, I would opt for the 4 stroke. I do like 2 strokes better though. I love the hit of the power band, and I love the sound and smell.

Lurch my man,

The news about the 4-stroke sled is wonderful.

Don't get me wrong, I get a grin when a 2 stroke hits the power band, but the man is down on 2 strokes and there is no way I can convince them their ok.

Same goes with dirt bikes and quads. I don’t want to be excluded from places I want to ride because they don’t like my machine.

This is already happening on our lakes with outboards. Pismo was excluding 2 Strokes last year. I'm not sure about this year, I haven't been out there yet. Yosemite is ready to outlaw snow machines all together, but I hope they don't. Maybe now that a 4-stroke alternative is on the horizon they wont.

I prefer 4-stroke, but it's probably just because I've always owned a 4 stroke. I do love to take my friends 250R for rides though. For my riding I think a 4 stoke is the best though. I think that if I really ended up getting into racing, I might get a 250R though.

I love 2 strokes, but for my style of riding my 400EX serves me better.
