1" wider tires, will it help cornering?
#1
Hey all, I've been tearing up trails on my new rappy and thinking of investing in some rear tires. Once I got used to shifting my body weight the bike is not as tipsy, however, would 1" wider tires help stabilize the quad at all? I'm looking at some Maxxis Razr's and thinking of going 1 inch wider. Any experience with this would be appreciated. I mostly run trails and some mx.

New back tires will make a big difference if you get a brand with more squared shoulders. The stock tires roll a lot in the corners, Holeshots and Razrs will break loose before the sidewall rolls and that results in a more stable feel in the corners.

A rim change will help even more thatn just tires!! I run Holeshots on ITP 9X9 rims. The rims are 1" wider than stock. They have 1" more offset than stock. And, the tires are 1" wider than stock. So, you get a 3+ rear end! The Holeshot fronts on ITP rims will also make the front 2+.

You will notice a little bit. But just buy the stock size. Your aftermarket tires will have a thicker sidewall wich gets rid of tire roll. Which in return gets you faster smoother and more stability. If you wanna go wider, go for it.

I'll give you a little (and cheaper) trick that I learned from some of the good guys on this site. Flip that rear shock linkage. I did just that on my Rappy, and it brought the body and seat down a couple of inches. Love the feel of it even better now.
Hope this helps you out.
