Im looking for Pictures of turbo quads. My cousin tunes owns/tunes GMC syclone's, typhoons, and Buick Grand Nationals, and is a turbo-whiz, so im planning a turbo project of my own. I would realy appreciate some nice pics of the fab. work done, as far as pipe routing and turbo-mounting positions on various quads. Not sure what we're gonna put it on yet, i can get a good turbo off of a late-80s Chrysler product for like $80. I am also hooked up with a very good welder, so I think i can pull it off. Thanks for any help,

go look on ebay they sell kits for quads on there

 

putting a turbo on a quad isnt as easy as you'd think it was. An 80's turbo out of a car just isnt going to make your bike move. You need a high powered mini turbo like a garrett or an aerodyne.

 

I did a little research, and the turbo im looking at is a Garret, t-3 I think, which is very small. I know that the Aerodynes they sell for rappy's and such are ball bearing and everything, but those things are quite pricey.

B.B. turbos are very desirable, but not necessary. I can get a used Garret for anywhere from $60 to $80, plus another $75 or so if it needs rebuilding. Look to spend from $500 up for a shiny new ball-bearing turbo.

Main issues are going to be plumbing, and pressurizing the carb. I will probably also have to lower the compression, as boost and high compression DO NOT go well together.

I have a Garret T3 off of a late 80's turbo dodge/chrysler if you want to buy it. But I'll be the first person to tell you that it is simply way too large for any conventional atv engine, and that's including any of your modified big bores. A T3 isn't really as small as you think with something like a .48A/R ratio exhaust housing with a 48mm turbine wheel and a rather large 42mm/60mm inducer/exducer compressor wheel. There's just no way you'll ever spool it especially with the outdated style turbine wheel. Even the Mitsubishi turbos (I believe TEO4H's) they started using in '88 on the T1 cars will be too large and that thing is tiny, (exhaust A/R is about 1/2 the size of a T3 Garret).

Would you have a turbo for a raptor? if so how much?

 

A 53 series aerodyne is sized for 600-700 cc properly. If you go over 700cc you have to limit your boost usually to around 10psi. I do not know what would happen on a 400cc motor but I would guess that your would get a substantial amount of turbo lag due to it being to large. There is more to aerodyne than just not needing oil, they also have variable pitched veins so it decreses the amout of turbo lag considerably. This may not be an issue with four strokes but it definately is in 2 stroke snowmobiles.

I have seen guys taking the Garret's off of Dodge trucks and running them on 800cc sled motors with good success ( there are some controller alterations) but it can be done on larger motors.

If anyone has a 66 series aerodyne I might be interested in buying it.
