Default "83 Honda 200e Muffler

I recently bought a '83 200e Big Red for $300. It runs well, has great tires, looks like I got a great deal, but it seems to be a little louder than I'd like. The muffler has a small hole in the bottom of it that seems to be where the majority of the exhaust is exiting. I went to the local "3 wheeler guru" and asked about a way to resolve this issue, and the guy told me that "I'd probably regret trying to fix it up, because one thing could lead to another and I'd end up spending more than the bike was worth". Does anyone have any advice for me based on previous experience? It seems simple enough to put a new muffler on it, but I don't exactly have a lot of experience with 20 year old atv's, so I may be missing something? What do you think?

hey i have 3 200e's the best route man is DG the pipe is onle 129$ it not loud but it has that nice hearty sound to it whatever you do dont go through a honda dealer for three wheeler parts you will pay out your ***! the guy i deal with goes through parts unlimited so i think you should just get a new one for the price. if your trike runs that good you mise well make it run better. also i would put a rebuild kit in the carb. I use Moose the kits only 15 bucks and takes about 20 min to put in comes with everything but the floats.
