I answered high jumper about his air filter and got to thinking about all the stuff I've broke since I got my brand new first out the dealers door shiny 400ex (almost two years ago doesnt seem like that long)

Cracked a swingarm
Bent and the broke rear shock shaft (those 2 related ?)

lost the key in a crash (had to strip the wires with my teeth to get back to camp)

been through 2 sets of handlebars

Am I hard on stuff or do the rest of you guys tear stuff up too?

Everyone goes through handlebars. If you have had your ride for a year or two and havn't bent the bars at least once than your lucky, or just don't ride full out. Mine I was full speed in 3rd in the snow when I hit a drift, I flew 15 feet in the air, my 400 flipped, and yes, bent the bars. Other than that just some bolts missing and bent up chain gaurd. They must make those cheep to keep the after parts market alive. They could make one lighter and stronger just like after market ones, but of course they don't.

Hey, check out what I did to my air filter to keep it on. (other thred)

I don't think I've done too much to mine yet, but here it goes.

I broke my swing arm carrier somehow. I now have a tapered.

Broke my front shocks from bottoming out too much. They were leaking oil from them. Now I have Works triples that I love.

Bent my cross bar on my handle bars in a 3rd gear wide open crash into a tree. Don't ask!!

I have a dented A-arm. Not sure how that happened. I just found the dent a couple days ago while washing it. It doesn't seem to affect it any though.

Broke my plastic, so I decided to cut it race style since I couldn't hurt it any more than it already was. It actualy came out professional looking.

Then there is the usual stuff like hole in the stock tires, chain and sprockets, brake pads, etc.

as for my 400ex not had a problem yet.

I agree with 426ex, I ride hard and fast, and I have yet to break or bend anything on my '99 400EX. I have made multiple mods including the 440 kit. Most of your "breaks" seem to occur from wrecking. How well do you think it should hold up? I personally try to avoid hitting things like snow drifts, trees, large rocks, etc...

I haven't had any major breakages, I just keep noticing small parts missing when I wash it down. I've lost my exhaust heat shield, fuel valve ****, rubber bushing under the seat, endcap on handlebar. Oh yeah, I cracked the mounting bracket on an e-series silencer from jumping in the dunes.

I lost the handle Bar end cap and 1 screw from the side panel, and a screw for the foot plastic. I also bent my handlebars and my tail light bulb burt out.

The only thing I have broken on my 400EX is an aftermarket Dura Blue X-33 Axle. I bent my bars from high jumping. I replaced them with aluminum TAG's before they broke. I put some Works Triple rates on BEFORE I broke something on the front end. I very rarely crash. I have had it since September '98 and have only seriously rolled it um, about twice. Scratched the top of the rear fender is about all. Had a few get-offs, mostly in MX, but the quad stayed on its wheels.
I am extremely happy with my first run 400EX. It is a little on the heavy side, but I think it is the best (production) sport quad out there.
