Default Do you let your kids ride unsupervised??

Do you let your kids ride there quads without supervision? My son just turned 12 and wants to go ride with his friends (12 and 13 years old) There is 100 acres at the house with trails and creeks running thru the property. I am against it myself. Not because i do not trust him, but because i do not know the kids he is riding with. They ride there quads on the road and thru back trails to get to our house. Is 12 years old to young to let go unsupervised????

2nd question. My son has a 250ex and i have been teaching him how to ride the stock 2003 raptor. What size quad do your kids ride?

My daughter has to stay in my sight, and so do my nephews. I don't trust them

I would not let a kid younger than about 16 years old ride a quad alone with friends. Kids at a young age do not think for themselves they just do and they get into all sort of trouble. Add a quad to the mix and you have a great combination for getting hurt. They will try anything with friends, and if they get hurt miles away form home, how do you know? Then you never know who else might get a hold of them while riding. A couple of 12 year olds are no match for a man or two looking for trouble. I also don't understand why they need to ride alone. Why can they not ride with a grown up? Surely the ride is the same. Maybe the kids can lead and ride where they want, but there has to be someone that looks after them.

Ditto that. Freez pretty much sums it up. I let my 13 year old bro ride my Kodiak 450, but only when I'm nearby and not in difficult terrain.

When I was 10 or so we got to go riding by ourselves. We let a freind ride a three wheeler that has never rode on before. He went off course flying through the trees and finally got caught by a cable that goes down from a pole. It clotheslined him off that three wheeler. Messed him up real good. We lied to his parents about what happended, we told them he wrecked on his bicycle. Kids will be kids.

I rode by myself with my friend when I was 12. Now granted it was on our own personal land, and my father helped cut all the trails we had so he knew all the terrain I would encounter. Do I think kids should be allowed to ride by themselves? I think 12 is the limit, but only if it is your land that you have knowledge of. Now I know I do not have children yet, and once I do it may change my point of view, but If you have knowledge of the terrain they'll be encountering then I don't see the harm in it. I also kept a watch on my and had to check back in every 1 hr. Could I have gotten hurt in my younger yrs? Absolutely. But kids get into all kinds of things. Whether its quads, bicycles, swinging on vines across creeks, etc. I think if you teach them respect for their vehicles, and instill saftey in thier heads its fair enough, but I do think 12 is the limit. Just my .2

When we are out camping, my daughter likes to ride off on short rides by herself, and it dirves me nuts!! I am constantly having to reel her back in. I will let her ride with a group of kids, but they have to stay pretty close to camp, and if they are gone more than 14 mins. (a little joke there!!), somebody will go out to check on them. Keep in mind that this is familiar terrain. But in the desert, a lost rider can be a serious thing.

There's another thing to take into consideration. When a kid rides by themselves, they more than likely just cruise around. When you get a few kids, each on their own quad, they try to outdo each other and end up racing around which can lead to more serious injuries.

Im 15 right now, and I go riding with friends all the time, and none of us have had any bad crashes when we ride. But honestly I consider it safer riding with friends. You may do stupid stuff, but when you ride by yourself freak accidents can happen and if you get hit and something bad happens your stranded out there to die.(Which i learned a month or so ago, when my friend hit a cable and go life flighted, luckly he was with his friend.)

As long as he knew his limits, I would let him go riding with friends by himself.
Thats just my opinion.
