Default Raptor reverse light

While riding my '01 raptor with the throtle all the way open my reverse light will come on and my engine will cut out. If i let off the throtle when the engine cuts out i can continue. Or if i see the reverse light come on before the engine cuts out and i let off the throtle the light will go off and the engine will not cut out. It does not do this all the time only on occassion. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem. Thanks

It might be your rev limiter kicking in....if that's the case its normal, try shifting up sooner..

Sounds like your rev limiter.

Wait a minute, are you guys saying that the rev limiter will light the Reverse light when it kicks in? I don't have mine connected any more but don't remember that happening.

I figured it out a while ago. There is a wire on the left side (Shifter side) near the bottom of the case. It pulls off real easy. It has a 90 degree fitting on it. It gets dirty and the connection becomes faluty. If you pull it off and clean it out with break clean or something simmilar, squeeze the fitting tighter with some pliers and slip it back on it will not give you any more problems. Hope this fixes your problem too.

I pulled off that plug (the one near the shifter) And it was badly corroded i cleaned it up and put some contact cleaner on it then tightened it down with some plyers but i'm still having the same problem. is there a way to eliminate the reverse? or maybe just the light...?

Hey I did some more Work with my reverse And i Fixed the problem. I Took my shifter right off and took the plug off of the reverse got it out from the wire holder and pulled off the boot. Cleaned it all up and put some electic contact grease on it electric taped it shut. then put it back together and put silicone over the plug itself. Been out riding and the problem is gone.
