Default Vinson Engine Not Running Right

Does a Vinson have a fuel filter? A friend of mine has a 2002 and it isn't running right. When you get to about 25 mph the engine starts cutting out. We cleaned the air filter and put in a new spark plug and it still dosen't run right. Could it be water in the gas? If so, is it safe to ust Heet or some other gas treatment to get the water out?

Thanks

Has the temperature dropped enough in your area to make jetting a factor?

First, I would disconnect the fuel line, and drain the fuel completely, and fill the tank with fresh gas. Also, maybe a piece of dirt got into the carb.

No, It's been running fine all fall, and it was actually warmer today than it has been for a while.

First, I would disconnect the fuel line, and drain the fuel completely, and fill the tank with fresh gas.
We used a siphon hose and got most of the gas out, then refilled it with known good gas. If water is the problem, we probally just didn't get it all out.

Also, maybe a piece of dirt got into the carb.
I hope it isn't dirt, because it dosen't look easy to get the carb off.

Thanks for the help.

Don't use heet. I had some water in my fuel and asked my dealer about using heet and I was told it could actually damage one of the parts in the carburator. A vacum slide in the carb or something. It's not a cheap part either so you may want to check into it before using fuel additives. I never thought heet could be bad but I'll take my dealers word for it.

the fuel pickup in the tank usualy has a screen type filter around it. i have read that some people have had problems with this. drain the tank and remove the petcock, to inspect it.

take the tank off, and drain the fuel, that will make a difference. i have had my carb off, all you have to do is take the black piece of plastic off around the tank, and then the screw that goes to the rubber boot on the carb, be forwarned, DO NOT TILT THE CARB ON THE BIKE, as gas will flow out.
