Default could this happen?

ok.. engine was taken apart for tranny rebuild... valves were fine before it was taken apart... now something is knockin real bad in the engine...
assuming nothing else went wrong in the rebuild... could the vavles be off just from taking it apart and putting it back together again?

oil lines are fixed... and i aint taking it apart.. it was fine before it went to the dealer.. imma bring it there and let them deal with it... just curious if the vavles could un adjust themselves when you take it all apart and put it back together again.

my best bud is my mechanic... other wise i wouldnt worry about it...
everything was taken out... and the cams were removed... but everything was marked and put right back into place... its kinda odd that it is clankin now... i am just worried that the motor is gonna have to be pullad AGAIN!!! and not be able to ride for another 2 months.

Rule of thumb #1 - anytime the cylinder head is disturbed, 99% of the time nothing changes unless new valves are installed, but the valve clearance should be checked anyway just because of that other 1%.

The head may have been torqued differently than before, the rocker cover may have a different torque ..... these all add up to minute differences that could effect the valve clearance.

Its amazing how many people rely on their dealer to fix something and get it back and cant figure out why somethings is wrong....i like to do it myself...but thats just me and i have my master mechanic dad to help with anything that needs help. Its funny how in my sled manual the most common phrase is "If this happens please take your machine to your local dealership".....but all I need to do is adjust the suspensions springs.....lol how hard is that really
