The auto inustry is trying to deny you the right to repair your vehicle.

It has been getting bad for a while now but as technology advances and they cram more into smaller places special tools become the norm. I don't like it either but if we want to purchase the correct tools they are available. BIG $$$$ though. I think the scan tool that I was using when I worked on Chrysler products was somewhere in the 6000.00 range. But I could buy one if I wanted.

i'm not quite sure how to write this....
i wouldn't expect a plumber to know how to wire a house to code.
i wouldn't expect an electrician to know how to plumb a house to code.
i wouldn't hire a single-family house framer to re-build the twin towers.
i wouldn't ask a Priest for marital advice or advice about children.
i wouldn't expect my wife to do an oil change on her own vehicle.
i don't think everyone can be an expert in every field....it IS nice to know a little about everything....but as high-tech as Autos are, i'm not sure it's SAFE for people to be fiddeling around. it's not like the old days when you could replace a two-barrell with a Holly650! LOL
the "MECHANIC" of yesterday is gone! he (or she) has been replaced by the "TECHNITION"....who is a highly trained specialist. they spend many hours on the computer taking classes. their Dealer INVESTS a lot of $$ on each tech to train them.
when and if i'm able to drop $47K on a new Suburban for my wife someday (which more than likely will never happen)and IF the SEL ("service engine light") comes on, that's why i will have a WARRANTY. i would bring it to a Dealer because he has a Highly-Trained SPECIALIST to work on my car. plus, every good Dealer i know buys the high-tech, expensive tools FOR their employees.
i DON'T want to be a "wanna-be tech". nor do i want inexperience working on my future expensive SUV.
.....and i think that's what i wanted to say!....more or less!.....and i hope i haven't offended anyone in any way. but that's my 2 cents on the new high-tech World we live in!
