Here in Wisconsin if your 12 with a ATV safety course you can ride anything. If you can handle anything is a different story. Started my son on ATC 70 when he was 7. At 12 bought him 250 bayou. Next he can have my V- FORCE when its time. Kids are fine when parents are around , but alone the power of ATV takes over that child.

Depends entirely on the individual kid. My daughter is 13 and is big and very mature for her age. Growing up, she rode an LT80, LT160, Recon, 250EX, 300EX, and now the 400EX. A good big sport bike like the 400EX, is actually SAFER than say a LT160, because of SUPERIOR SUSPENSION AND HANDLING (in spite of the greater power), as long as the kid is big enough.

My son on the other hand is a skinny little guy, and will probably still be on his 90 when he turns 13. But, I do wish I still had the LT160 so he would have an "intermediate" bike to ride between the 90 and the 250.
