Age Matter?

I don't know 'bout you but I have 4 kids that I love. I'm not sticking them on a machine that can get seriously out of control with too much throttle. I feel that just because they can start it that they should be riding it. Put them on a smaller machine and let them master it, build some skills, and then move up to a bigger machine

OMG!! this brings up an issue... my dad taught my 7yr old brother to drive my warrior when i was working AND MY GRANDPA!!!!! omg i damn near had a fricken HEART ATTACK ....!!!! now i know what parents feel... also the 400ex is a good quad just needs some improvements( like not being a wheelie machine) unless thats what your into..all they gotta do is move the engine forward a few inches... that's why im afraid to take my frined josh to my cottage cuz im afraid those 70degree hills will flip him ... also for me i've only ridn a few but nething higer than 450 i CAN'T handle... will ride but not like i sholud(FAST N OUTTACONTROL!!)

400ex's don't always wanna do wheelies. if your friend josh no's how to ride he won't flip. neways if i heard my granpa rode mine i would puke. but if my dad let a friggin 7year old drive mine i'd spaz. lol

I am 13 years old and I ride with my friends who are no older than 14. We go pretty far away from my friends house but we are trusted.....we do sometimes stupid stuff that we would never try around them, but we don't get hurt.....atleast try not to.....and they still trust us. As long as we come back alive, they won't stop us from going......We have learned from doing dumb stuff.....so...that was just a big stupid thing
Anyway...as long as a person can handle it, they will fit on it.
Some 10 year olds I know could handle a Raptor
while some 40 year olds I know couldnt handle more than a 250ex.

When i was at my house when my grampa took me home, he wanted to ride my 300ex at 83 years old, so i let him, i told him where the clutch was and the gas, he told me " i know how to ride it, i used to fly airplanes", i thought that was pretty funny. he actually did ride it pretty good, he just cruised around it the yard. If he saw some of the stuff i do on that thing he would go crazy so i dont show him .

It's all about what your conscience and sensability will let you decide on age because only you can judge what size your child needs. Just because 12 yr old Dick has a Z400 and Jane has a 300EX doesn't mean that they were assessed by their parents if they could ride them cause there parents thought that they would be cool that way or would save money when they got older.
Size matters, grabbing the concept matters, confidence matters. But I suggest, DO NOT go by the ATV guidance for childrens ages on quads.

I say start them young! I started riding a 200x 3 wheeler at 5 yrs old(now 20), a atc250r when I was 10. A lot of my friends started a couple years ago and they get hurt a lot more than me and another buddy that started young. When you have been riding for so long, it is 2nd nature just like breathing, you know how to react when in a fast tight situation without panic. Anyone else no what I'm talking about.
My proof is look at my friend that has been riding a long time and my hospital bills compared to the others who started a few years ago.

My 9 YOA daughter does quite well on a LT160, which is her first quad. She does have alot of experience on her KTM 50cc Senior Adventure though. Age is less relevant than the kids ability to listen and learn and parental supervision IMHO.

All I've got to say is don't go by the age suggestions on the ATV. Yesterday I was at a Polaris dealership, and I told my 12 year old brother to sit on a Predator 90 (recommended for no one under the age of 12) just to see how it was size wise. His knees were touching the front fender!!! Now tell me that is safe. I personally think he is safer on my Z250. Go by what the kid can handle and is appropriate for their size, not by what is suggested.
