i have a 2004 sportsman 400,just did my first oil change.polaris recomends 0w-40 synthetic.i couldnt find 0w,so i bought 10w-30 synthetic and changed the oil.is this ok?

 

I know it's a pain in the butt, but I would change it. Definitely if you live in a cooler climate. I would not worry about the filter. I have heard of guys messing up their cams by running the wrong viscocity.

 

Run the 0W40. It is best for the motor. Amsoil makes a synthetic 0W-40 and so does Mobil 1, called the "european Car Formula". You can find it at Autozone or Advanded Auto, or any other place that carries Mobil 1

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only synthetic 0W-40 oil I know of is Polaris' own proprietary stuff. And it's ridiculously expensive, too.

my buddy just bought a 2004 sportsman 400 also just did first oil change at 20 hrs I gave him my 0w40 polaris oil I had because I did not need it I run the ps4 but definitly stick with 0w40 its made specific for that machine..............

 

i found the 0w-40 at advance auto today.thanks for the help guys.
