Do you happen to know the Fram part # for '97 Sportsmans or is it the same as '98 and '99's.

I use a Fram 6607 on my 98 SP, should be the same for the 2000. To be sure ask your dealer for the Polaris part numbers for the 98 and 2000 see if they are the same, if so you are in business.

1. The on-line manuals are parts manuals only, not service manuals. The Sportsman service manual is Polaris part number 9915686. It covers the Sportsman 500 from '96 to '00, and the Sportsman 335 from '99 to '00. Excellent manual for about $40.

2. Filters:
Polaris 3084963
Fram RPH6017A
Fram 6607
Emgo 10-82230 (black or chrome)

I agree, all Sportsman use the same filter.

I realize that alot of people put alot of trust in Fram, but I've seen cutaways of fram filters, and they are made extremely cheap. The pleated paper filter element is held together by a string tied around the circumference of it. I've also seen the cutaway of a wix filter, and I'm convinced that they are an extremely well-made filter. They cost more than fram, but only about half the price of the polaris filter. The filter number that fits all polaris 4-stroke engines is Wix 51358. Most auto parts stores carry wix filters, or can tell you where you can get them.
