Default Aauugh! Yamama oil filters interchangeable?

I bought an oil filter at my dealership for a 2005 Kodiak 450 and the partsman gave me 5GH-13440-50-00. But there are also 00-00, 20-00 and 30-00 versions mentioned on the Internet. Some might be 1/4" shorter than the others. Some might be built by a different manufacturer or built in a different country. Some might be for marine applications and some might be for cycle applications. They might all be equally interchangeable and they might not. So, what is the deal? It's about confusing enough to want to just go to O'Reilly Auto Parts and buy a Wix and some Valvoline.

From what I've seen on the motorcycle forums, they are supposed to be interchangeable. One person said those indicated the year it was made, but I have no proof of that. The change in size isn't uncommon as they use these in several machines so space may have become an issue on a newer model.

Also found this conversion list.

I just changed the oil on my Polaris 500 and 350 Grizzly and friends 660 Grizzly.
Found out they all take the same oil filter. So if you want another option these filters will work. The longer 3.5" vs the 2.5" long are a tight fit on the Yamaha but do fit.

These Oil Filters have 20 x 1.5mm threads, 14 psi by-pass valve, anti-drain back valve, 2.3" O.D. gasket 2.5" to 3.5" long.
I,m using the Fram PH7317 in both my Yamaha and Polaris currently.

I called the dealership and the partsman said the original filter was 5GH-13440-00-00 and then superceded to 5GH-13440-30-00 and now superceded to 5GH-13440-50-00. He says he does not really have much Yamaha experience but that is official from Yamaha.

I pride myself on not walking into dealerships traps often. Go to a Wal-mart and get a
WalMart SuperTech ST6607 and be done with it.

Well, it's oil change time again. The Yamaha ATV oil filter is now 5GH-13440-61 which supercedes 60 and 50. There are 70s and 71s but they may be mainly for outboards. The Yamaha partsman stocks only expensive Yamalube 10W-50 synthetic blend for Yamahas and AMZOIL synthetic for all makes. He doesn't recommend Valvoline 10W-40 mineral ATV oil but admits he never heard of any damage done by it. Now, here's the killer. He doesn't stock Yamalube Foam Air Filter Oil. He sells K&N Air Filter Oil Spray for universal air filter oil. It seems to me it's basic knowledge you're not supposed to use K&N oil on foam air filters.

You can use motor oil on a foam filter. We used to use 2 stroke oil on ours, back when we had 2 strokes.

I know motor oil/chainsaw bar oil is okay to use on a foam air filter if you reoil it often enough. I like Yamalube foam air filter oil because it is tacky and it does its job until my next oil change. But K&N is a different animal.

I scrutinized online the different foam air filters and their oils and cleaners. I'm thinking, to stay rather O.E.M. use genuine Yamaha air filter, Yamalube 1-pint synthetic foam air filter oil, Caltric air filter, Maxima FFT 1-pint semi-synthetic foam air filter oil, Maxima foam air filter cleaner or your own domestic solvent, to go rather aftermarket use the Uni filter, oil and cleaner.

On a single cylinder four stroke ATV engine, the piston is pushing whatever CCs the engine is, of oil fume laden crankcase air into the airbox at every downstroke, if that doesn't keep your air filter oily, nothing will.
