Thats funny my sp500s speedo will go to about 64 and then stop. Also the 96 sp500 had a longer rear differencal. Thus being a tad slower. My friend and i dragged and he beat me off the start ut i came back to beat him by about a atv length. The only utility ATV that will beat my sp500 is the grizz. The next closest is the Rancher FM. The rancher is pretty quick for a 329( 350 in hondas terms). But then there is the 400ex! Period..........

PolarisMan u say your speedo goes to 64 MPH then stops...how can this be when the Speedo stops?
Do the older models have a speedo that goes to a higher speed? also i really doubt your SP goes 64...im sure ur speedo says that but i think that the older Sps werent as ascurate
Or did u get the speed of 64 MPH from a GPS?

I have a 2000 sp500 with the digital hour meter and new speedo. The speedo will hit 60 and keep going to about(!!appox!!) 63-64. I weigh 110 and it only took1.5 miles of highway. I dont know how fast i was really going but good thing i had goggles on. Oh yeah the neadle was shaking! And i ask a cop if i could do it. Then i told him and he was amased. So he went out and bought a Kodiak. it will run about 52 mph. The shorter rear diff. housing is a lot faster than the old ones. The Grizzly beat me by a .5 ATV lenght. But i bea him off the start.!. I am telling the honest truth about every thing i said. I do have witnesses

I have both machines.. the Scrambler is NOT the H.O. engine.. but will trash a Magnum/Sportsman.
As for top speeds, with my 27" tires and enough straight pavement, the Magnum will run about 61-61 mph... We have better air then alot of people, so my speeds may be somewhat faster. Besaides, I only weigh 150 lbs. Way too fast for what I wanna do anyway.. IF you purchase a Sportsman or Magnum for top speed, you are buying the WRONG bike. The Scrambler is a speed and agility bike, the Sportsman and Magnum are more of "luxury/utility/with some sportiness to keep you feeling young" kinda bikes.
