Sport 400l (HPD) vs. Banshee
#1
I have a 98' sport 400l. And a couple of my friends have stock 99' banshees. Our sport has just recieved a Pipe, Silencer, and Clutch kit from HPD. The thing is that those 2 guys that own the banshees, want me to come race with them (drag race) down a 400 yard field..The question is do you think that our sport400l with those pipe sielncer and clutch kit will keep up with a stock banshee? The pipe/silencer and clutch kit are "trail series", so it gives me alot more low end and mid range, along with quite a bit of top. Thanks its appreciated

If you have your clutch set up right you should get them out of the hole, but they will still probably pull you after 50-75 yards.
You're going to have to slap on a 38TMX/39PWK and have some porting done to give them a good run for the whole 400 yards.
Even with everything I've done to my 400 a well built Banshee will pass me on top, after 400-500 yards. But, considering most sand/dirt drags are usually 200-300 yards I'm not too worried

Jerry is about right. Lately most of the dirt drags have been 100 - 150 yds. and maybe a few out to 200. With just a pipe and clutch kit, the Banshee will pass you. With a built motor, that won't happen out to 150-200 yds. anyway.

300ex,
I have just the RCR mods done to mine. (Stage-1 kit) I now have other stuff... BUT at the time that was it. I raced a couple of Banshees. The shorter the race the better chance you stand to give them a good run. Besides top end isn't a "drag" anyway right??? So try to talk them into something shorter than 400 yrds. Anyway they never caught me until about their fourth gear. After that the six speed & high revving twin was too much. Come out of the hole as quick & hard as you can without letting it wheelie too bad. You might just have a couple of "concerned" Banshee owners for about the first 50-100ft. I know I did when I raced them
It's that whole auto thing I guess. Getting beat (even on a holeshot) by a fat, overweight auto is a tough pill to swallow !

Andrew is right. Run the Banshee for 150 yards on gravel or dirt(not sand) and you might beat him. All his(enormous) power is roosting up in the air and yours is going to the ground. We ran a '98 xplorer against three 2000 stock Banshees on gravel and beat them every time. Then we went to a hard surface and they smoked us big-time. But they respected the 400 after that. All these guys were racing for fun, no hard feelings and no betting. good luck Polcat
