Default GNCC Race question: Only 3 or 4 laps completed in 2 hours?

I just checked over the 2003 GNCC ATV race results and discovered that winners of the utility stock and utility modified ATV races were listed as completing only 3 or 4 laps in the allotted time period (approx. 2 hours). If each lap is 8 or 9 miles long, that means these quads were only moving an average of approx 15 mph! That sounds awefully slow.

Is something wrong with my calculations (avg speed: 15 mph) OR is the race course lay-out so difficult and the race so full of racers that most quads rarely go very fast during the race??? If my question sounds dumb, its b/c I have never attended one of these races (but I plan to race in the Lone Star GNCC round on Jan 31st in Gilmer, TX).

It really depends on the layout of the course....and yes, if the track is very tight woods and very little open spaces, you won't see much over even 24mph avg. speed on the sport quads. And then the utilties start farther back, and having to work through traffic or lappers will really slow your time down that much more. But you look, and it will take 30min. to go that 9-10 miles of course if it's tight woods. If you're gonna race your first race...be in shape, have a waterpack, and some rolloff goggles, that's the only beginner advice I can give....you will learn the rest as you go!!
